On Writing
It has been said that you are what you eat. I have no evidence to support
this theory and I don't think that I have begun to resemble a giant coffee
bean just yet - and I drink gallons of coffee each day! In the case of writers,
however, I firmly believe that we are what we read.
My reading material is fairly wide-ranging and my all time favourite novel genre would have to be fantasy (with Sci-fi and horror a close second). In addition, I enjoy reading literary works, various types of poetry, and experimental forms of writing. I also like to read the occasional biography, and non-fiction about science, history, mythology, society, and even mathematics. In fact my bookcase(s) would probably contain the strangest mishmash of topics and genres ever seen in one house.
So when I write, I guess that my work tends to reflect my wide interests. At the moment, though, I have been concentrating on writing poetry which tends to be either dark/horror, fantasy, or more literary in nature. I also have quite a few short story and article ideas floating around but have yet to complete these.

The sky swollen, horizon scarlet light fading, sullen darkness looms terror and war, a blossom tainted with blood. A flood of fear, washing, weeping weakening my heart beating faster, still faster, hair plastered against my skin. Dark secret things hiding colliding in my gut wrenched clenched a million tiny fists punching their way out. I shout, bolting straight up in bed, head throbbing, temples leaden, nausea rising in my chest. Burning needles jab at my eyeballs, dry and prickly with night grit. A flash of lightning, thunder rumbles in the darkness. I feel the booming in my blood; I'm flooded with that night-time fear . . . a spear to the chest - breathing arrested. I stop. Cease to exist. At one with the night the fight gone out of me, I lie exhausted, sweat pooling at the back of my neck, sheets tangled in my legs.

Scenic violence, captured by the camera - a purple flower opening on your skin. Flames, drowned in salt tears falling for the silent ones.

Swirling emotions threaten to drag clean shirt tails through muddy water, Violent currents eddy around a lone outcrop of rock, the spray from rabid waters sends tears scurrying down toward the depths. Stone, shaped by nature, Century by Century, the fall, harder still.
